Leo Fitness Challenge
Leo Fitness Challenge was aimed to educate the community on the benefits of engaging in regular physical activities while also providing them with easy to do workout routines. It is important to maintain proper form when engaging in physical activities as improper form could lead to injuries. So the posts were made as informative as possible and easy to follow even without prior experience.
A challenge was also initiated to get volunteers to engage in physical activities and to get more volunteers to join them. It also provided a fun element to the project.
Another objective of the project was to improve and maintain the physical and mental health of the community amidst a pandemic situation.
Leo Fitness Challenge
Exercising on a regular basis has a plethora of benefits. Not just physical but also mental wellbeing can be improved through regular physical activity. Keeping these in mind, the planning process of the project commenced.
Project Planning -
The project was planned to be conducted in two phases. The first phase aims to post a set of Carefully selected workout posts that are unisex and suitable for both professionals and beginners. Exercise routines were developed by our own members which could be followed by any individual. This set of poster series was first created to give an awareness prior to initiating the challenge to do workouts. So, people who are following can each day try out a new exercise and also continue previous exercises as well.
In planning the second phase, it was the initiation of the challenge and the participants are allowed to choose any exercise of their choice. While accepting the challenge, participants will be allowed to nominate others to accept the challenge to maintain continuity of the challenge while having fun through the challenge.
Contribution of the club and granting the permissions -
Prior to the commencement of the project, a project proposal for projects aimed at sustainable development goals was sent to SDG Development Director Leo Hansika Gamlath. This project aims at SDG 3: To ensure a healthy life and promote the well-being of all ages. The proposal was approved by Leo Hansika Gamlath on the advice of the Head of Sustainability to proceed with the project under the 3rd SDG.
Proceeding of the Project -
As planned, in the first phase, planned routines were then posted every week from Monday to Friday for four consecutive weeks. New exercises were introduced day by day to make the routines interesting. The participants were able to try out new exercises daily while also continuing the ones that were posted previously. As everyone was at home due to the second wave of the pandemic, this provided them with the break from the monotony of working from home and the “New Normal”.
In the second phase, a fun challenge was initiated. Participants performed an exercise of their choice and posted it on their social media while nominating three more friends to do the same. This was an entertaining way to motivate more people to take up exercise during this pandemic time. Leos of the club initiated the project by sharing their workouts in a small clip of video or photos of doing workouts and then nominating friends to follow suit.
Project Feedbacks and Progress
The project received positive feedback from all the participants as it helped them tackle many issues in their lives. It also provided them with an escape from their daily routines and a much-needed break.
